FAQPage Schema
Markup for question-and-answer lists. Google stopped showing them as expandable rich results on 7 May 2026; according to Google's guide to AI features, no special markup is needed for those.
FAQPage is the Schema.org type for pages with frequently asked questions and answers. Until early May 2026, Google could display the questions as expandable rich results; this was discontinued on 7 May 2026.
Structure of the schema
A FAQPage schema contains a mainEntity array with any number of Question objects. Each Question has a name as the question and an acceptedAnswer as an Answer object with text as the answer. In terms of markup, it is one of the simplest schema types and can be implemented in ten minutes.
Google's requirements
First, the questions and answers must be visible on the page, not just in the JSON-LD. Hidden questions can lead to a manual action. Second, it has to be a genuine FAQ, not marketing waffle dressed up as questions. Third, all answers must be freely readable, without a login or paywall.
When rich results appear
Google discontinued FAQ rich results completely on 7 May 2026, and they have not been shown at all since. According to Google's own guide to AI features, AI answers do not need any special markup; clearly written, well-supported content is enough.
Practical tip
Stick to genuine questions that users really ask. Look through your email correspondence with customers and use their original wording. Avoid disguised questions such as “What does the perfect web design look like?”, which nobody can really answer. Better: “How much does a website cost for a mid-sized business?”
