WordPress or Jimdo: which fits which business?

Jimdo costs €0 to €200 to get started and €12 to €29 a month after that (as of 30 October 2026), but it is a closed system with basic SEO. WordPress costs €500 to €3,000 to set up and €10 to €100 a month to run for hosting and maintenance. In return it is open source and yours to keep, but it needs someone to look after the updates. Who is each option right for?

In short: a website builder for pure business cards with no growth goal, WordPress for editorial-heavy projects with technical resources on the team, bytebrise for websites that are meant to win customers actively.

Wix or Jimdo are the right choice if …

you need a plain business-card site with 3-5 pages, have no meaningful SEO goal (e.g. a private project, a club, a local restaurant with loyal regulars), and want to keep the budget under €1,000 in the first year. Both platforms are enough for a "we exist" presence.

WordPress fits if …

you run a blog- or news-heavy project (magazine, publisher), already have someone on the team who maintains WordPress and resolves plugin conflicts, and will manage several hundred pieces of content long term. For solo freelancers without a tech background, WordPress quickly becomes a maintenance trap after 6-12 months: six plugins outdated, one breaks, theme no longer compatible.

bytebrise is the right choice if …

your website should win customers, not just inform them. You need a noticeably fast site (fast mobile load times as a target). Yes. bytebrise Sichtbar costs a €490 setup fee plus €149 per month, cancellable monthly, €5,854 over three years. All prices are final prices; under § 19 UStG no VAT is charged. A Wix plan with add-ons stays cheaper if you handle being found on Google, the map pack and AI answers yourself. Whether the difference pays off, you see every month in three numbers: AI mentions in test queries, map pack position, inquiries via the website. If the numbers don’t improve, cancel at the end of the month.
